Any day now

Just got back from our doctor appointment. Jolene is 1cm dilated and 70% effaced now. The doctor guessed that Dresden was around 7 pounds so far and thinks we'll probably go into labor sooner than later.

Down to the wire

We're in the final countdown now (cue cheesey 80's song).
Jolene felt like she was going to deliver the baby over the weekend, she's had a lot of contractions that she feels in her back. Kind of odd but people have told us it's normal. We're seeing the doctor every week now until the birth. Our due date is September 24th but my gut feeling says he's 3-5 days early, he's practically headbutting his way through Jolene's cervix now.
Sleep has been getting more difficult which is not good considering I'm about to have no sleep for a long time. I need it now! I think people who have babies get aged a bit from the lack of sleep. I've been told I don't look my age but that might be about to change.

Baby shower

Thank you everyone who came to our baby shower on Saturday! Little Dresden is fortunate to have so many loving aunts and uncles. We have about one month left to go until he arrives. Although I have a feeling that Jolene would like for him to come out tomorrow.

May your first child be a masculine child...

It's official, our baby is a boy! We had our 20 week ultrasound on May 7th and the tech took a bunch of pictures to measure the baby. She estimated the boy to be currently at 13 ounces and 10 inches in length. His bones were more visible this time and he's gotten huge! He's kicking more everyday and pushing against mommy's bladder. We've decided to go with the name "Dresden" for his first name. We're not sure of what his middle name will be yet but it will most likely be a Tigrinyan name. So now we can finally stop buying yellow and green outfits and get some boy stuff. We're also thinking about painting his bedroom in a pirate theme.

End of first trimester

We're at the end of the first trimester now and moving into the second. We had another set of ultrasounds and bloodwork yesterday to check for any genetic defects. We actually got to see the baby moving around! Baby was moving it's arms and legs around and flipping onto its side as we were watching the screen. At one point it looked like baby was sucking on it's thumb.

Here are some pictures we got, Jolene thinks baby has my nose and her lips.

Heartbeat

We had our monthly visit to the women's clinic yesterday. No new pictures today but we'll get some soon, we're scheduling a round of high resolution ultrasound tests for detecting possible genetic problems. Relatively short visit today. We got to hear the baby's heartbeat! It was moving at a rate of about 150bpm, which is normal for babies but it sounded pretty fast. Jolene thought it sounded like a little train chugging along. Very cool to hear our little person in there.

We'll have our ultrasound tests within the next week or two.

First Baby Pictures!

We had our first round of baby tests at the Boulder Women's Clinic today. So far everything is looking great, the baby had a strong heartbeat and was a good size. We found out our expected due date is September 24th.

The doctor's answered a bunch of questions we had, we mostly concerned with vitamin supplements and if certain foods were okay.

Here our the first pictures of our baby!
